After more than a decade of talks, the UN has just announced the first ever treaty to protect the high seas! HIGH SEAS TREATY Two-thirds of the earth is actually ocean and most of that ocean is international waters, also known as the high seas, which pretty much isn't owned or protected by anyone. Well, besides Poseidon, of course, but like he said, it's hard work. So, the United Nations has now stepped in to lend a hand. After discussing the idea for around 15 years, 100 countries finally agreed to the UN High Seas treaty that aims to protect 30% of international waters by 2030. The agreement will introduce rules around how countries can share the use of the high seas for research and resources, and experts hope it will help reverse the losses of biodiversity and the number of threatened species in those parts of the ocean that have been caused by things like overfishing, pollution, and of course, climate change. There's still a few more steps to take before the treaty becomes law, but many hope that we'll eventually have safer underwater worlds for our fishy and not-so-fishy friends, and that Poseidon can actually put his feet up for a minute. NSW HEATWAVE If you're watching us from New South Wales right now, then it'll come as no surprise when I say it's hot! Yep, the state is sweltering through a heatwave with Sydney set to experience its hottest day in two years. Temperatures were tipped to hit about 40 degrees in some areas, and more than 30 schools were closed because of high bushfire risk. WORLDPRIDE MARCH The Sydney Harbour Bridge was transformed into a sea of rainbow colours yesterday on the final day of WorldPride. More than 50,000 people marched across it to show their support for LGBTQI+ people. There was even a mid-bridge proposal. NRL DOLPHINS The NRL's newest team, the Dolphins, have made quite the first impression. They just played and won their first-ever match, taking down the Sydney Roosters. Things started well for the Dolphins with Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow making history as the first try-scorer for the new club. And things just kept getting better from there. F1 Aussie Formula One driver Oscar Piastri has made his formula one debut in the Bahrain Grand Prix... but he had a race to forget. Sadly, he had to pull out in lap 15 when his engine failed to restart during a pit stop. While Red Bull's Max Verstappen ended up winning the race. TENNIS Bouncing over to tennis, Alex de Minaur has won the Mexican Open. The final took almost 2 and a half hours, but he came out as the victor in the end. He celebrated with this glorious sombrero. Hey, that trophy kind of looks like a pear… NABIL FROM SYRIA And finally, Nabil Saeed, a boy from Syria, has fulfilled his dream of seeing Cristiano Ronaldo play live. Nabil's dad died in the recent Turkiye-Syria earthquakes, and after this video of him went viral asking rescue workers if he could watch Ronaldo play, he was invited to one of the soccer star's games and got to meet his idol. ISS CREW ARRIVES This is the moment SpaceX's Crew 6 blasted off into space carrying 4 astronauts on board. They headed to the International Space Station where they plan on staying for a 6-month mission to help fix a software issue. This also means the last team, Crew 5, can come back home to earth soon. MUAY THAI KIDS Now to a gym in central Queensland that is training kids in the sport of Muay Thai boxing. The gym was started as a safe space for kids to practice the martial art and to encourage more girls to have a go! The teachers say they've now got a pretty even split of boys and girls in their classes, which they're pretty proud of. WEEDY SEA DRAGONS Check out these weedy sea dragons! More than seventy baby weedies have hatched at the Birch Aquarium in California. They're about two and a half centimeters long and weigh less than one gram!
