As summer heat waves swept across the Yangtze River valleys in south China, and prolonged drought has extended into autumn there, the farmers are concerned that their rice output is dropping this year.
When the Yangtze River experiences the worst drought in 61 years, will the Three Gorges Dam work? The Three Gorges Dam is the number one hydroelectric power plant in China and is currently the largest in the world. When drought conditions set in, it’s designed to open the gates and release water to alleviate the drought in the middle and lower reaches.
